To live life authentically means to be at ease, comfortable and content with ones life.
Similarly, finding a space or community where you not only feel safe, but where you feel comfortable enough to be yourself is extremely important.
The spaces we choose to be comfortable and true to ourselves is totally subjective, meaning we all find a sense of “home’ or “authenticity” in the objects, spaces and people we find important.
Many people, including myself, feel free when they spend time with close relatives and friends, others may find comfort and freedom in the places they grew up, like their homes or destinations they’ve travelled to.
On Feel Good with Andy Maqondwana, Andy asks listeners when and where they feel like their authentic selves.
In a voice note one listener explains how she feels like her authentic self when she is at home with her mom.
“So for me where I feel my authentic self is where I currently stay with my mom. This is where even on bad days, I feel good!, she said.
Another listener who goes by the name of Puseletso, explains how she feels her true self when she’s with her partner.
“For me I feel my best self when I’m with my partner. We’ve been together for three years now. He is my best friend! I literally don’t have to fake anything when I’m with him!”, she shared.
