There’s been a slight improvement in the country’s unemployment rate in the third quarter of the year.
The latest statistics sees a 1% drop in unemployment from 33.9% to 32.9%, detailing fewer job losses.
According to the Quarterly Labour Force Survey, (QLFS) over 204 000 people were hired between the second and third quarter of 2022.

The new unemployment figures were released by Statistics SA on Tuesday, 29 November.
This is the lowest the unemployment rate has been since 2021, when the number of unemployed people dropped by 269 000.
As per the latest report, the most number of jobs were recorded in the manufacturing sector with 123 000, trade at 82 000 and construction which hired 46 000 people.

There were notable job losses in the finance sector, private, mining and agriculture.
The statistics were once again compiled via in-person interviews for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic.
Black women are still the most vulnerable with an unemployment rate of 39,1% in Q3:2022. This is 4 percentage points higher than the national average for women at 35,1%.
Approximately 3,5 million (34,5%) out of 10,2 million young people aged 15-24 years were not employed, studying or training.
