Another pandemic is plaguing South Africa; one experts are dubbing the ‘brain drain’ as thousands of qualified thirty and forty-year-olds leave for greener pastures.
The country’s post-lockdown economy is linked to the sudden surge in migration, but Marisa Jacobs, Director at XPATWEB, explains to Kaya Bizz with Gugulethu Mfuphi that it’s not an entirely new phenomenon.
It is alarming because the country does not attract internationally skilled people to balance the quick exit trends currently at play.
This leaves South Africa with a severe skills shortage and impacts the sluggish economy from a quicker recovery.
Marisa Jacobs told Gugulethu Mfuphi that government could not stop people from leaving as many consider the best options for their family and children’s education and opportunities.
