Mo & Phindi are professional relationship and marriage coaches, who’ve been at it for close to nine years. Their story of a long and happy marriage has inspired many people in understanding their spouse even better. The recently spoke to Sumitra Naydoo about love, money and the lessons they learned in their many years of being in a relationship.

Love isn’t for Cowards
The couple are best-selling authors of two books: Love Isn’t For Cowards, and Stuff We Wish We Knew Before Getting Married.
The pair say that their first book Love Isn’t For Cowards was their biggest stepping stone in their current business as professional relationship and marriage coaches. They wrote their book ten years into their marriage while going through a very difficult period, The book was a reflection of this time and has helped many married couple across the country.

In the interview, Mo spoke about the individuals who walk into relationships not having a solid foundation, which makes couples question each other’s intentions.
“One of the biggest challenges that couples go through even with financial situations, is a shaky foundation. When when your relationship is shaky the money becomes a big thing… when you dig deeper… a lot of fights about money within couples aren’t really about money. They are about values above anything else…”

Building successful relationships
Mo encouraged couples to talk about their dreams and aspirations, and to share what they want to work towards together.
“You need to get where your partner wants to go from a vision point of view, so that you’re able to hold each other accountable.” Phindi also added that other major challenges in relationships and marriages are unrealistic expectations, or uncommunicated expectations.
“We always say that you must find the right place and time to communicate these things, even though they tend not to be very romantic.”
In the interview they also took us through their marriage and how they have handled doing business together, a very tricky space for many couples.
