Kalawa Jazmee Records recently announced the finalisation of signing the rest of season 16’s top 5 Idols to their stable. In an official statement by the record label, they welcomed Mr Music, Brandon, Zanothando, and Ndoni. They joined the season’s winner Zama who is also part of the award-winning team with a long history in the South African music industry.
In October last year, Idols SA stated that Kalawa Jazmee Records will handle their artists and repertoire (A&R), artist management and marketing portfolios. Their agreement also noted that the winner would also have access a wide network of Kalawa artists and alumni. Many welcomed the deal, seen as a new era of entertainment and growth for the Idols SA contestants.
The stable is indeed excited about their new recruits with Oskido saying it takes more than talent to make it in today’s competitive music environment. “The music industry has never been so competitive, after all, Spotify adds about 40 000 tracks every day, so it’s important to produce quality and to have strong artist brands”

What’s on the horizon for the new signees at Kalawa?
Zama, Brandon, and Mr Music will be working on new music and fresh videos while Zanothando and Ndoni will officially be recording their first singles.
Kalawa has also indicated that they are planning a boot camp-style retreat that will see the new signees getting together with the Jazmee team with a wide range of producers to work on exciting new music. All these collaborations are set to be the highlight for 2021.
