Motorists will be flocking to petrol stations across the country on Tuesday, 01 November, as the price of petrol and diesel will go up at midnight.
The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy made the announcement of the fuel price adjustment for November and there’s a steep jump particularly for diesel users.
As of midnight, or the 02 November, the prices of both grades of petrol will increase by 51c/litre. Diesel will go up by a whopping R1.43c/litre for 0.05% and R1.44c/litre for 0.005%.
There’s a slight drop in the price of LPGAS by 98c/litre, while illuminating paraffin goes up by 77c/litre.
| Fuel | Price change |
|---|---|
| Petrol 93 | increase of 51 cents per litre |
| Petrol 95 | increase of 51 cents per litre |
| Diesel 0.05% | increase of 143 cents per litre |
| Diesel 0.005% | increase of 144 cents per litre |
| Illuminating Paraffin (wholesale) | increase of 77 cents per litre |
| LPGAS | decrease of 98 cents per kilogram |
The increases mean that motorists will pay R22.57/litre for 93 octane petrol and R22.87/litre for 95.
Diesel has gone from R24.06/litre to R25.49/litre which is a marked increase.
The department attributes the higher prices to the average Rand/Dollar exchange rate and possibly the increased demand and limited supply of the commodity.
Mainly the increase was driven by a weaker Rand and increased international oil prices.
The increases also make provision for the self-adjusting slate levy mechanism, which is a slate levy of 70.14c/litre.
This levy will be included in the cost of petrol and diesel as of 01 November.
