Five of King Misuzulu’s closest allies have been gunned down ahead of his coronation. On Saturday, four men, including a prominent induna of the Osuthu Tradtional Council was shot and killed.
In September, the chair of the same traditional council and the King’s trusted advisor, Dr Dumisani Khumalo was assasinated by gunmen outside his home.
The latest murders come as the newly appointed King is set to receive a certificate of recognition in a historical coronation ceremony.
King Misuzulu’s half-brother, Prince Samakade is however, challenging him to the throne and is calling for the coronation ceremony to not go ahead.
Threatening bloodshed if the coronation ceremony proceeds, the concern is whether the latest murders are a warning to the King.
Now, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) have called for the police to act swiftly.
Circumstances around the four murders are unclear at this stage and the MEC for KZN COGTA, Sihle Zikalala wants those responsible to be dealt with.
Zikalala called upon law enforcement agencies to do everything in their power to deal with the lawlessness that threatens to engulf KwaZulu-Natal and various sectors that form it.
“We express our condolences to the family of Induna Ntuli and the 3 people that were killed in this attack. Ntuli served with diligence under isigodi Mhambume.”
