On Thursday, a suspect in a conspiracy accused of stealing fuel from Transnet and causing damage to its pipelines is set to appear in court.
He was apprehended after two suspects were detained over the weekend in Vrede, Free State, for fuel theft and tampering with the Transnet national pipeline.

Solly Khoza and Mauro Aurelia Langa were detained while delivering stolen petrol in Kromdraai in Witbank, Mpumalanga. Police detained the tanker while they were apprehending the perpetrators.

On Tuesday, the men appeared before the Vrede Magistrates’ Court. On October 24, 2022, they are scheduled to reappear in court with the suspected kingpin.
According to Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Philani Nkwalase, since last year, about 8.5 million liters of fuel, worth roughly R102 million, have been stolen from national Transnet pipes.
