With a heat-map from Mozambique to Mpumalanga, tropical cyclone Eloise is wreaking havoc on South Africa’s north-eastern regions, as it makes its way to other parts of the country.
Gauteng has been placed on high alert, as weather forecasters predict that heavy rains and strong winds will persist on Wednesday and Thursday. This despite Eloise being downgraded to a ‘depression’, which means the storm has lost some of its strength.

Torrential rains are still expected to cause flooding in low-lying areas of the country, posing potential risk and creating widespread panic. This after Eloise claimed two lives, a 5-year-old boy who was swept away by floods in Mpumalanga and a 14-year-old in KZN who drowned.
Gauteng’s Disaster Management are on stand-by with contingency plans to assist Gauteng and other surrounding provinces should the need arise.
They’re calling on people to exercise caution on the roads as flash floods are possible near low-water bridges and public roads that have poor drainage.
