Argentine football legend Diego Maradona’s ‘Hand of God’ ball is reportedly going up for auction
On November 16, a ball that was used in the 1986 World Cup quarterfinal match between Argentina and England will be auctioned in London. It is estimated to be worth between $2.7 and 3.3 million (R 49 million – R 60 million)
Maradona scored two legendary goals with that ball: the first, when he controversially used his hand to punch the ball into the goal; and the second, when he dribbled past numerous England players and rounded England goalkeeper Peter Shilton.
The ball Diego Maradona used to score his “Hand of God” goal against England at the 1986 World Cup will be auctioned next month for £2.5m-£3m.

Political tensions following the Falklands War caused the quarterfinal match between Argentina and England in 1986 to boil up, and the late Maradona’s two opposing goals would come to characterize the match.
“With the history surrounding the ball, we are expecting this lot to be hugely popular when it comes up for auction,” Graham Budd, chair of the auction house, said in a statement.
According to Bin Nasser, the current owner of the ball, “This ball is part of international football history, it feels like the right time to be sharing it with the world,” he said.
