McDonalds USA have introduced Happy Meals for adults, announcing a partnership with Cactus Plant Flea Market.
The streetwear brand will be collaborating with the fast-food giant and have created four plastic figurines for the new menu items.
McDonalds say they want to give adults an equal treat with their own Happy Meals, and offer customers a chance to relive nostalgia.
Adults can order a Big Mac, 10-piece chicken nuggets or a chicken or veggie option in the Happy Meal range and will receive a figurine.
There is no indication whether the Happy Meals for adults will be available in South Africa and for now it’s just US outlets that will carry the special orders.
The four figurines are Grimace, Hamburglar, Birdie or Cactus Buddy, but the response to the Happy Meals for adults were not well received.
Many said the figurines were hideous, with each character looking like something out of a horror movie with two pairs of eyes.
“The figurines look like cursed, distorted versions of the McDonalds mascots. Grimace for example, has four eyes and looks like he was made by a child with clay.”
McDonalds introduced Happy Meals for children as a marketing tool to lure kids to the brand. The meals for kids are one of the brand’s popular menu items and there’s no telling if the adult version will be equally as popular.
