Public Enterprises Minister, Pravin Gordhan has announced a new Eskom board with Mpho Makwana at the helm as Chairperson.
With the new Eskom board firmly in place and assuming duties from Saturday, 01 October, the question is will this mean the end for Andre de Ruyter and Jan Oberholzer?
The CEO and COO of the state-owned power utility have been at the forefront of the worst loadshedding spells the country has ever experienced.
There are mounting calls for the two to step down from their positions from opposition parties, such as the EFF as well as the Black Business Council (BBC).
The BBC have accused both de Ruyter and Oberholzer of plunging the country into darkness and paralysing the economy.
Welcoming Gordhan’s announcement. the BBC is convinced the first order of business for the new board would be to dismiss de Ruyter and Oberholzer.
The new appointed Eskom board consists of: Lwazi Goqwana, Clive le Roux, Dr Busisiwe Vilakazi, Mteto Nyati, Fatima Gany, Leslie Mkhabela, Dr Tsakani Mthombeni, Dr Claudelle von Eck, Ayanda Mafuleka, Dr Rod Crompton, Bheki Ntshalintshali and Tryphosa Ramano.
Dr Rod Crompton is the only member from the previous Eskom board who will serve on the new one to ensure continuity.
CEO Andre de Ruyter and CFO Calib Cassim will serve as Executive members of the board.
The new board will be in place for the next three years.
