Real Housewives of Pretoria has sparked heated online discussions over the show failing to include women of colour.
All other Real Housewives shows both locally and internationally have a diverse cast of women.
The more popular show being the Real Housewives of Durban, which had a massive following due to the vibrant personalities who were cast.
However, the Pretoria leg of the show just includes white Afrikaans speaking women, which in 2022 raised eyebrows over exclusion and sparked racial divide.
The trailer for the show which debuts in October reveals the housewives whose lives viewers get to follow.
According to reports, the women are Renske Lammerding, Marié Bosman, Talana Veren-Kuhn, Kiki La Coco, Mel Viljoen and Rhona Erasmus.
All housewives have lucrative careers and live a lavish lifestyle but there were raving arguments over the selection criteria.
“If it was a question over language, surely there are wives of colour in Pretoria who can “praat die taal” (speak Afrikaans).”
“Every South African Housewives franchise has a mixed group of women, but the Real Housewives of Pretoria is just white Afrikaans women? In 2022? Oh, okay.”
Real Housewives of Pretoria will be aired on KykNet but many fans of the reality show were shocked to learn not only will it be broadcast strictly in Afrikaans, but the all white cast had many unimpressed.
KykNet hasn’t responded to criticism yet.
