The Senzo Meyiwa murder trial gets off to another shaky start on Thursday morning, 15 September when Advocate Malesela Teffo demanded to see Presiding Judge, Tshifhiwa Maumela.
Teffo who withdrew from the controversial trial in August, citing harassment, barged into the courtroom fully robed demanding a meeting with Judge Maumela in chambers.
There was a heavy police presence, with officers following Adv. Teffo into the courtroom. Teffo had previously represented four of the five men accused for the murder of Senzo Meyiwa.
Before he withdrew from the trial, the advocate accused both Judge Maumela and President Cyril Ramaphosa of conspiring to conceal the truth behind Meyiwa’s murder.
According to reports, Teffo showed up at the North Gauteng High Court announcing that he was “back from leave.”
Advocate Teffo approached the other counsel members saying he needed to see the judge in chambers with the rest of them.
Judge Maumela did not meet with Advocate Teffo and proclaimed, “As far as I recall, the said Advocate withdrew from the trial.”
Advocate Teffo Malesela failed in his bid to dismiss or postpone an application by the Legal Practice Council (LPC) to have him barred from practicing law.
Last month, the Legal Practice Council wants to hold Teffo accountable for misconduct dating back to 2021, for fraud, assault, misappropriation of funds, and intimidation.
