Tiger Brands Ltd (TBSJ.J), the largest food producer in South Africa, announced on Wednesday that it is voluntarily recalling all lots of its Purity Essentials baby powder following the discovery of asbestos levels in test samples.
The test samples, according to Tiger Brands, came from a batch of pharmaceutical-grade talc powder that was utilized as a raw ingredient to create finished powder goods. The firm’s stringent quality and safety requirements were not met by this batch, it claimed.
