South Africa’s Crown Jewel, Thuso Mbedu has yet again taken the world and Hollywood by storm.
This time, the rising star graces the cover of Essence magazine alongside her co-stars on The Woman King Viola Davis, Lashana Lynch, Sheila Atim, and Adrienne Warren.
Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, The Woman King is said to uncover and reframe a chapter in West African history and in turn follows the story of an all-female warrior unit who protected the African Kingdom of Dahomey.
In conversation with Essence magazine, Thuso Mbedu reflects on director Gina Prince-Bythewood and co-star Viola Davis believing in her and what that meant to her.
“My biggest takeaway is that I really am stronger than I think or believe or allow myself to be. And that there is a greatness that you saw that I have not been allowed to see in myself that I need to take in. I thank you for seeing me. Because even now I don’t think I see myself”, Thuso shares.
Thuso took to Twitter to not only share pictures from her Essence Shoot. but also expressed her gratitude in a light-hearted manner.
“Bathong, Siri, play “Essence” by Wizkid ft Tems and Bieber. Danko means thank you”, she shared on Twitter.
