With news of Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin being subjected to a drug test after she shared videos of her partying up a storm with her friends, Sizwe Dhlomo wanted to know if politicians are held to a higher standard.
The 36-year old female Prime Minister who was recently dubbed “the coolest Prime Minister in the world” by a German publication, received heavy criticism after videos of her dancing was shared online.
While Marin tested negative for drugs, she did admit to drinking alcohol on her night out.
Speaking out about the scrutiny she has been subjected to Marin said she was aware her friends for taking videos but had hoped these would be kept private between them.
As much as she went along with the drug test, Marin said the criticism received from her opposition will not stop her from being the person she is.
“I have a family life, I have a work life, and I have free time to spend with my friends. Pretty much the same as many people my age. I am going to be exactly the same person as I have bee until now and I hope that it will be accepted.”

Locally, EFF Commander-In-Chief, Julius Malema was also put under the microscope for partying in Ibiza.
Malema was attending his Adriano Mazzotti’s daughter’s wedding, and had attended the event with his wife. He was spotted consuming alcohol with a group of men amid a myriad of issues that South Africans were dealing with at the time.
Many felt that everyone deserves to let off some steam and enjoy a night to let down their hair and just have fun, politician or not.
What’s more is that, a lot of Kaya Drive listeners felt that in the case of Sanna Marin, her track record should have spoken for itself and protected her from intense public scrutiny.
Since the incident a lot of women from Finland have shared pictures and videos of their partying to show solidarity for the young politician.
Many feel she has been ridiculed this harshly because she’s a woman, as many male politicians get away with a lot worse, including those who are caught with their “pants down.”
A prime example of this would be former US President Bill Clinton who was implicated in the infamous sex scandal with Monica Lewinsky, and let’s not forget about the sex tape that leaked of Former SA Minister of Finance, Malusi Gigaba.
