In July, English football club Manchester United confirmed the appointment of Benni McCarthy as a first-team coach – overseeing their ‘strikers’ department.
Speaking about the appointment of the Bafana Bafana legend, Man United vice-captain and Portugees international Bruno Fernandes said he grew up idolizing McCarthy.
“It’s been really nice. It’s a pleasure for me because as a young player I was seeing him in Portugal playing for Porto and scoring many goals.
“It was a joy to see him and I have him now, for many of my friends and family that support Porto it will be good that they can come to Manchester and see him.”
Bruno says the South African’s impact has been positive.
“He is a really funny person. He is always positive, he has good energy in the dressing room and training ground. He was a quality player and a quality manager.
“We do many drills for many things he was doing really well as a player. He can hopefully help us score some goals that we didn’t before.”
