Solange Knowles can now include a composer as part of the list of her many accomplishments.
The actress, singer, and composer has been chosen to write the music for the New York City Ballet’s Fall Fashion Gala, making her the first Black woman to receive such a commission.
The famed dance company said on Monday that Grammy-winning musician Solange had been hired to compose a ballet score for the occasion.

The “A Seat at the Table” artist, took to Instagram to express her gratitude for the opportunity.
She wrote: “🖤very excited to announce i’ve composed an original score for the New York City Ballet 🖤 choreography by Gianna Reisen , score performed by the City Ballet Orchestra and soloist from my ensemble 🖤 Shows : October 1, 8, 11, and 16 as well as May 2, 11, 13, 17, and 18th at Lincoln Center”
The upcoming collaboration with the New York City Ballet’s Fall Fashion Gala the first time she shares new music since her 2019 fourth-studio album When I Get Home, which included hits such as “Things I Imagined,” “My Skin My Logo,” and “Dreams.”
