In its truest sense, genre speak is a limitation. It is a vocabulary meant for the marketer to neatly tie a ribbon around a cultural product so that it can be paddled in the market place. But there are artists who subvert this notion of thinking in how they create, Mark de Clive-Lowe is one of those artists. In the recent installment of The Art Of Sunday Brenda Sisane chatted with the maverick.
As a composer, jazz musician, live remixer and electronic music producer, Mark de Clive-Lowe. De Clive-Lowe is an internationally established artist with over 20 years’ experience spanning multiple genres and continents.

Mark de Clive-Lowe bears little resemblance to what’s typically thought of as jazz. He however revels in an expansive creative horizon, where the theory and practice of jazz is simply one of many ingredients that come together to form an uncategorizable sonic experience. This recent Sunday, The Art Of Sunday played from his extensive discography and sampled his new album Dreamweavers, a collaboration with Andrea Lombardini (bass) and Tommaso Cappellato (drums)

“(the) avant-garde soulful Pianist/DJ/Producer delivers his lifetime of journeys to different musical ports in a concise package, seamlessly… transporting not just in genre but in emotion and spirit.” – Huffington Post
