Tensions are high in Ennerdale, south of Johannesburg after a parent and teacher altercation raised concerns of racism.
The incident took place on Friday, 12 August at Fred Norman Secondary School, involving a grandparent and a pregnant teacher who called the child’s guardian trash.

Angry parents at the school held a protest outside the school on Monday, 15 August calling for the school to fire the ‘racist teacher.’
“It’s wrong, for a teacher to call a parent trash. You must not allow that to happen.”
A disgruntled parent at the school stood by the grandparent who was insulted by the teacher.
The Gauteng Education Department says it will investigate the incident and says the teacher has been removed from the school in the interim.
Spokesperson Steve Mabona says, “Educators must always be exemplary figures at our schools by maintaining a high command of good conduct and teaching our learners with dignity. We implore parents to use appropriate channels to address their grievances rather than resorting to other platforms. Furthermore, schools are institutions of learning and they should be treated as such.”
