Almost three years since her murder, the murder trial of Primary School teacher, Allison Plaatjies has now commenced.
Allison Plaatjies was a teacher at Clan William Primary School in the Western Cape and was killed by her colleague and boyfriend, Phillip April when she ended their relationship in 2019.
Phillip has pleaded guilty to the murder and admitted to the court that he killed Allison following an argument that took place on October 26, 2019.
The argument was said to be about Phillips excessive drinking.
“I plead guilty to the charge of murder of the deceased known as Allison Plaatjies,” Philip April said via his lawyer, Office Mtini, in the Western Cape High Court on Wednesday, 3 August 2022.
He continued: “I applied force to her neck with my hands, stabbing and cutting her throat with a knife, which caused her death”.
Earlier this week, state witness Dr. Liebenberg gave further evidence on Allison’s gruesome murder.
She noted that there were several defensive-type injuries on Plaatjies’ hands and arm, indication that she tried to defend herself.
“This type of injury is consistent with a person trying to ward off sharp force; trying to shield the body from penetration by a sharp object”, Dr. Liebenberg tesified.
Another witness has now come forth to testify against the accused. The witness, Jevida Steenkamp was a friend and collegue of the deceased. Jevida noted in her testimony, Allison mentioned to her that Phillip threatened to kill her if she broke up with him.
“Allison told me the accused said that if she would leave him, he would kill her”, she said.
