Lesego Tshepang, wife to popular actor Thapelo Mokoena opens up about raising their son Reko who has a speech impediment.
Lesego says at “one point I could never even imagine Reko stringing 3 coherent words together, never mind being a leader or top of his grade!”
Sharing an older image of her and her son, Lesego defines that period in her life as “harrowing.”
She continues: “I thought I knew stress and anxiety up until that point in my life. Constantly on the Internet, researching what could be the problem, moving from doctor to doctor. Taking all that information and filtering through it ( using my greatest filter… A mother’s instinct and the Holy Spirit ) to determine which was the best course of action.”
Lesego adds that the biggest lesson she’s learned from having a child with a speech impediment is that there is so much information out there.
“There is sooo much you can do at home. You really have more power than you realise.
“To all the parents who are going through some developmental journey with your child…. please know that nothing is set in stone. The human brain and body CAN change and CAN improve ( even excel) with the correct and CONSISTENT interventions. Don’t despair. Just keep on moving forward.”
“God restores. Our faith in him is probably one of the only things that kept us strong.
While sharing this, she revealed that she got “the most amazing feedback” from Reko’s teacher.
“She said that Reko displayed excellent leadership skills and was top of his class. To any other parent this might be great feedback but not earth shattering stuff.”
