Legal counsel for suspended Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane has intensified the request to subpoena Ramaphosa.
Advocate Dali Mpofu who is representing Mkhwebane confirmed that he has written to Parliament’s Section 194 Committee.
Mpofu wants President Cyril Ramaphosa to testify over Mkhwebane’s fitness to hold office.
Ramaphosa has been accused of suspending the Public Protector unlawfully, despite the president standing by his decision in June.
Mkhwebane stands accused of lying under oath about deliberately changing the law to find Ramaphosa guilty in the CR17 report.
In a statement by Presidency, Ramaphosa refused to appear at the inquiry to testify against further allegations.
Leading the request to subpoena Ramaphosa, Mpofu says the letter was sent to the committee on 08 August.
“By now you would have received a letter from us on the 8th and that is a day before the public holiday, pertaining to the request that we are making to you to take the necessary steps to subpoena or summon President Cyril Ramaphosa, given the report we last gave, that he had declined the invitation to appear voluntarily.”
Mpofu says that the accusations levelled against Mkhwebane are false, and he wants the President to testify to offer proof.
“On the fact that he (Ramaphosa) has made certain accusations against the Public Protector, saying she’s guilty of perjury and all sorts of things, which would be impeachable if they’re true”.
