This morning on 959 Breakfast with Dineo Ranaka and Sol Phenduka we caught up with legendary actor Meshack Mavuso.
Meshack is popular for playing the characters Javas in Yizo Yizo and Vusi Moletsane in Isidingo.
Speaking to 959 Breakfast about how he met his wife in 1995, he says it happened purely by chance.
She was a student at St Mary’s when we met. In 1995 we were going to Amsterdam to go perform and we needed space to do our last rehearsal.
Someone was working at St Marys and they got us to do a dress rehearsal there and we performed.
After performing this lady came to me and asked for my autograph.
She came with a ticket from the market theatre and I wrote there – I love you – and signed.
When Meshack got back from Amsterdam, the two met at the Market Theatre and exchanged numbers. “I used to call her every day from the pay phone. That autograph is still there,” he adds.
The revered actor shares that after Yizo Yizo success, the fame got to his head and he became problematic.
I was a problem and to be honest she was there for me. I was on tv and everyone knew me and wanted a piece of me. At some point, it can all go to your head.
As time went by Meshack realised that he was on the wrong path. He thanks his wife “for standing by his side.”
Speaking to 959 Breakfast over the phone, Meshack Mavuso’s wife says they met at a young age but their love for one another kept them together.
We met at such a young age and I’ve always just loved him so much and he is the father of my children.
I had to forgive him so many times but I always remembered how much I love him. And it’s not just that, I always remember how much he loves me too.
