Will Smith has made a social media comeback and offered Chris Rock an apology.
At this year’s Oscars, he slapped Chris Rock on stage after the comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith during the ceremony.
Smith later won the best actor Award for his performance in King Richard on that fateful night but was subsequently barred from the awards ceremonies for a decade.
The actor hasn’t posted anything online since March.
The actor claims in a new Instagram video that he’s “been doing a lot of thinking and personal work”.
He also said “I spent the last three months replaying and understanding the nuances and the complexities of what happened in that moment, I wasn’t thinking about how many people got hurt in that moment… There is no part of me that thinks that was the right way to behave in that moment.” said Smith.
Kaya 959 breakfast with Dineo Ranaka and Sol Phenduka recently spoke to Chris Rock’s ex-wife Malaak Compton-Rock who said she was the first person the comedian called following the infamous Oscar slap.
In the video, he also took the time to apologise to Chris Rock and said he has reached out and is ready to talk whenever he is ready.
“I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk, and when he is, he will reach out. So I will say to you, Chris, I apologise to you. My behaviour was unacceptable, and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.” said Smith.
