English football club, Manchester United have confirmed the appointment of Benni McCarthy as a first-team coach.
The club under manager Erik ten Hag, made the announcement on Saturday, 30 July.
McCarthy, a former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates forward, played in the English Premier League for West Ham United and Blackburn Rovers.
The South African also enjoyed a professional football career in other European clubs, including Ajax Amsterdam, and Spanish club Celta Vigo.
McCarthy then went onto play for Portuguese contenders, Porto.
The 44-year old will now lead the coaching team for Manchester United, with hopes to lead the Red Devils to a Top 4 season finish.
“I support Man United and always wanted to play for them,” he once said. “I loved players like Mark Hughes, Andy Cole and Ryan Giggs.”

According to ten Hag, McCarthy will specialise in coaching the first-team on attacking plays and positioning.
His first test will come against United’s clash against Brighton & Hove Albion, at Old Trafford on Sunday, 7 August.
McCarthy joins a United coaching staff which includes, Eric Ramsay and Darren Fletcher.
