South African rapper, Nadia Nakai Kandava, AKA, Nadia Nakai spent time with DJ Keyez on the Ultimate Kaya 959 top 30. The artist who recently purchased her first house, says she’s trying to live life off social media for her own happiness.
Nadia says she’s tired of making headlines because people are more invested in her love life.
“I decided to quit Twitter because I realised it was affecting my happiness too much. I’d wake up completely happy and not have a worry in the world, and then I’d get on Twitter and see a comment about me. It would just affect my whole day.
It’s been like that for a while and people always say, ‘you gotta have tough skin’ and I don’t believe you do. I don’t believe I have to go through that to be an artist and be successful.”

The artist doesn’t believe in blocking people because she says it’s not an effective solution to the problem.
She would therefore rather remove herself from the equation in an effort to protect her mental health and inner peace.
Nadia Nakai, who is currently dating SA rapper AKA, says she prefers the ‘good energy’ of TikTok, and is most active there.
Her TikTok account mostly includes her fine dining experiences and foodie indulgences.
Opening up about the loss of Tumi Tladi, Nadia says it’s difficult to talk about because the reality is that so many men are hurting and feel like they can’t talk about what they’re going through.
“I’ve known Tumi for years, I met him when we worked on a Red Bull dance competition back in the day. We then worked on a song called Presidential, it’s so tricky to talk about because he’s always been so happy and I didn’t know he was hurting the way that he was.”
Nadia said she saw Tumi two weeks before his untimely passing and had no idea what he was going through. Being in the industry, Nadia says she goes to therapy to help her cope with the many external forces that are at play.
The artist has a new song out which features Lucasraps, called Not The Same which she dropped in July.
She’s focused on managing her own record label, Bragga Records and says branching out of Cassper Nyovest’s label, Family Tree, wasn’t due to any bad blood.
Squashing any speculation that Nadia left Cassper’s stable because of the ongoing feud between him and her boyfriend AKA, the singer said it was nothing like that.
“It was just a matter of time, and I made the decision to launch my own label so that I can stand on my own. There’s no bad blood between Cas and I.”
She says she’s able to put more attention behind her brand as an artist this way and is ready to take her career to new heights.
