This Monday, 18 July 2022, marked 6 years since the untimely passing of Gugu Zulu.
Gugu Zulu was a South African racing driver and television presenter who won numerous racing titles.
He was also a presenter of the SABC motoring show Car Torque.
Reflecting on the 6th anniversary of her husband’s passing, Letshego Zulu says she was “silent for most of the day” as she had multiple debates with herself on whether she should “acknowledge what happened 6 years ago when her heart was shattered into a million pieces.”
Letshego says in that very moment she had to put on her “big girl panties, chin up and keep moving.”
The late racer’s wife explains that she’s not one to celebrate or acknowledge the passing of a loved one but prefers “to acknowledge what used to be their birthday or any other joyous occasion I experienced with them.”
6 years later she is “happy she didn’t receive morbidly heart-wrenching messages on Monday and instead a stream of heart emojis from many who loved him. “
She adds: “Change is the only constant in life” and I’m ever so grateful to witness this shift. I know many will never forget Gugz on this day because he “chose” Mandela Day to depart. And with that, the heart emoji’s can continue.”
“Today wasn’t a “hard” day as few eluded to it. I choose not to make it “hard” but to rather smile at the memory of having been blessed with his love and energy once upon a time. And to my friends who cracked jokes just to make me laugh today, you’re the best,” wrote Letshego in part.
Gugu Zulu is survived by his wife and their 7-year-old daughter.
