The Presidency has slammed Advocate Teffo Malesela’s allegations, calling his accusations against Ramaphosa a baseless tirade.
Advocate Teffo claimed there’s a bigger scheme to cover-up the murder of footballer, Senzo Robert Meyiwa.
On Tuesday, 12 July, Teffo withdraw as the legal representative for 4 of the 5 men accused of Meyiwa’s death.
Teffo claims his reason was due to the harassment he was receiving from the State and the court.
“The reason you Lordship that I can no longer be able to be in court and face you, there are serious allegations here, whereby you are accused No.1
Before I accepted the case, there has been harassment that I should not accept this case from the police, the NPA. I came into this case knowing what the consequences would be.
On the 28 April, when I was arrested in your court your Lordship, that was the plan and the plan was hatched in the office of the President. The No.1 office of the No.1 in the country.”
In a statement issued by Ramaphosa’s spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya, the Presidency has slammed the allegations.
“The Presidency has noted and strongly refutes the false claims made by Advocate Malesela Teffo that The Presidency is behind his alleged intimidation and subsequent decision to withdraw from the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial.
These unsubstantiated and baseless claims are mischievous and harmful to the standing of the Office of the President.
The Presidency does not participate in criminal investigations or trials and is not involved in any perceived or actual harassment of Adv. Teffo.
As an Officer of the Court and a professional in the legal fraternity, Adv. Teffo must appreciate the level of veracity that is necessary to support such claims about any institution or individual.
The Presidency espouses the values of our Constitution and cherishes the protection, safety and justice for all. ”
