Senzo Meyiwa’s family is not worried that Advocate Teffo Malesela chose to quit mid-trial. The controversial advocate announced his decision to withdraw from the trial on Tuesday, 12 July.
Acting as the legal representative to 4 of the 5 men accused for the footballer’s murder, Teffo said he was being harassed by the State and the court.
He claims that the plan to hold Mthobisi Prince, Bongani Sandiso Ntazni, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli and Mthokoziseni Maphisa, responsible for Senzo’s death came from President Cyril Ramaphosa himself.
While he withdrew from the trial, Teffo will continue to be on the watching brief, serving as an advisor to the Meyiwa family.
As it was Senzo’s brother Sifiso Meyiwa who hired Teffo, in hopes he could bring the family justice.
Sifiso Meyiwa shared that his family isn’t worried that Adv. Teffo has quit the trial, saying he reached the decision after consulting with them.
“We knew about the harassment and it was getting too much for him to handle, and we agreed that he should make the decision to quit. He was being harassed by police and it’s because he has evidence of the police covering up what happened the night my brother died.
We’re not worried because we know what will happen from here. Advocate Teffo has advised us and he will still remain on case 375.”

According to Sifiso, there are concerns that the lives of the five men accused are in danger. He says that the men are being mistreated by police, who he believes will do whatever it takes to hide the truth.
Last year, Sifiso Meyiwa said the police were using the 5 men as scapegoats to protect his brother’s real killer.
