Was it a slip of the tongue or did a South African journalist strategically refer to President Cyril Ramaphosa as ‘Mr Phala Phala’?
In the clip that has since been circulated on social media, the journalist is trying to get President Ramaphosa’s attention, and asks him if there are any developments in the investigations surrounding the robbery at his Phala Phala farm in Limpopo.
“Mr President, has a date been set for you by the ANC’s Integrity Commission regarding the Phala Phala issue? Mr Phala Phala,” the journo then corrects herself as Ramaphosa walks off.
Ramaphosa was attending the mass funeral for the 21 teenagers who died at the Enyobeni Tavern in East London on Wednesday, 06 July.
The journalist is reportedly Chriselda Lewis from the SABC, whose slight echoes most South Africans’ feelings towards the President right now.
This after it was brought to light that Ramaphosa covered up a robbery at his Phala Phala farm, where $4 million was stolen.
The money was kept under a mattress at the farm, with the President saying the money came from the sale of cattle and game which he farms.
Ramaphosa has not answered any questions regarding the Phala Phala scandal and said he will allow due process to follow.
Since Arthur Fraser opened a criminal case against Ramaphosa in June, the matter has seemingly been swept under the proverbial rug.
