Murder charges against four police officers in connection with the death of Mthokozisi Ntumba, 35, have been dropped.
Ntumba was killed in Braamfontein during a March 2021 student protest over historical debt.
He was leaving a doctor’s office and was not a part of the widespread student protest.
Ntumba complained of having a stomach ache and went to the doctor that day.

To the charges of murder and three counts of attempted murder, Tshepiso Kekana, Motseothata Boitumelo, Madimeja Lekgodi, and Victor Nkosinathi Mohammed all entered not guilty pleas.
Due to the inability to positively identify the police officers in the court-presented video footage, defense attorneys for the policemen claimed on Monday that the accusations against the accused should be withdrawn.
They said that none of them could be seen shooting at anyone in the video.
