A motorist, aged 28 years old was arrested on charges of culpable homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol, and failing to stop at an accident scene by JMPD officers on the N12 West between Golden Highway and K43 in Eldorado Park.
The incident occurred on Saturday 02 July 2022 around 03h00 am.
JMPD officers and Traffic Wardens from By-Laws Management Unit were attending two accident scenes on the N12 West between Golden Highway and K43 in Eldorado Park.
Whilst attending to the accident scenes, a Renault Sandero drove at a high speed hitting a 37-year-old female JMPD Traffic Warde, Luleka Sobetshe.
The driver then failed to stop after hitting Warden Sobetshe. Officers on the scene gave chase and managed to catch the driver.
He was then breathalyzed and his reading was 0.69mg/l exceeding the legal limit of 0.24mg/I.
The driver has been arrested and is due to appear in court this week.
