For a third consecutive day frustrated Johannesburg residents have gone without power for hours post loadshedding. This as City Power claim the regional infrastructure is showing strain as the system overloads, leading to mass outages.
Angry residents in northern suburbs especially have been hit the hardest, with an outage in Roodepoort and surrounding areas going on since Sunday morning.
Over the weekend City Power shared that Stage 4 loadshedding is putting too much strain on resources, with some substations unable to return during restorations.
“In-rush currents, multiple cable faults, vandalism and overloading due to the cold weather are the reasons for the trippings in most areas, especially after load-shedding restorations. Cables that have been repaired after cable theft are also susceptible to faults during load-shedding because they have been weakened over time.
City Power shared its struggles with mass outages post loadshedding
With Eskom pushing the country into Stage 6 on Tuesday, 28 June, residents are growing increasingly impatient with the excuses by the municipality.
Dealing with the extended periods without power due to loadshedding is one thing, having to go days before an outage is restored is an inconvenience that is taxing residents who pay for services.
Some of the areas affected by mass outages include:
- Emmarentia
- Greenside
- Linden
- Bergbron
- Northcliff
- Florida
- Honeydew
- Fleurhof
- Northriding
- Ennerdale
- Lenasia
- Randburg
City Power claims incidents of vandalism and cable theft increased during loadshedding adding to the already dire situation.
According to City Power, resources have been beefed up, and more operators have been added to ensure a quicker response time with limited delays in restorations.
However, residents from some of the areas above went without power another night before restoration was successful this morning.
