A preservation order to freeze the property owned by Vhutanda Investment, whose only director is the former lottery commissioner Prof. Alfred Nevhutanda, has been acquired by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) from the Special Tribunal.
According to the SIU investigation, the property was paid for with funds obtained from the lottery commission when Nevhutanda served as chair of non-profit organizations.
SIU probe has revealed that the property was funded by NPOs with the money they have received, under the auspices of grant funding, from National Lotteries Commission. At the time of the purchase, Prof Nevhuthanda was chairperson of the NLC board.

The home, which is located on an opulent two-hectare estate in Pretoria and is worth roughly R27 million, is said to have been purchased using funds from the National Lotteries Commission.
The SIU said “SIU probe has revealed that the property was funded by NPOs with the money they have received, under the auspices of grant funding, from National Lotteries Commission. At the time of the purchase, Prof Nevhuthanda was chairperson of the NLC board.”
“Five NPOs applied for grant funding at NLC and were jointly funded to the tune of over R100M. Immediately after funding was received, the NPOs transferred money to a legal firm for the purchase of the property and the furniture.”

Since it appeared that he failed to report any potential conflicts of interest when the payments for the residence were made, Nevhutanda’s time as board head at the commission has been marred by controversy.
Nevhuthanda, a senior pastor of the Higher Grace Church International, is also a former chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo and a director of at least 40 companies.
