The DA has approached the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to investigate allegations of money laundering against President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Speaking at a media briefing in Johannesburg on Tuesday, DA leader, John Steenhuisen said he’s written to the FBI about the $4 million that was stolen from Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala farm.
The opposition party said while the President insists on remaining silent on the matter, it is the DA’s duty to not allow the matter to be swept under the rug.
“Like we pursued Mr Zuma, and like people within the ANC pursued Mr Zuma, and like Parliament pursued Mr Zuma, we need to make sure that pressure is kept up with Ramaphosa. Just because Mr Ramaphosa remains the preferred person in the ANC for people, if we look back at first principles, it shouldn’t matter who the President of the Republic of South Africa is, law must apply to them equally.”

Steenhuisen said there were 9-steps the DA was planning on taking to hold President Ramaphosa accountable for the large amount of foreign currency at his Limpopo farm.
The first step is to involve the US’ investigative agency to probe where the $4 million actually came from and why it was stashed at Ramaphosa’s farm.
John Steenhuisen said it was well within the FBI’s jurisdiction to to investigate the matter as it involved US currency. He wants to know whether the money was brought into the country legitimately and if so, was it declared to the necessary authorities.
“We have recommended that the ledgers or journals, which would have recorded the alleged sale of wild game at the auctions, be requested from the president to determine the identities of those involved in the suspicious cash transactions.
A cash transaction within South Africa involving $4 million is deeply suspicious, and more so since the cash was hidden in furniture, and its theft investigated off-the-record and covered up.”
Steenhuisen has also written to other agencies regarding the cover-up of the robbery at Phala Phala
