A Portuguese man has been roasted for spending almost R58 000 (£3,000) on “voice deepening surgery”, only to sound the same.
The unidentified man, who is a patient of Dr Kursat Yelken, Professor of Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery, shared a before and after sound clip of his voice.
In the first clip, the man shares that he is deeply (pun intended) unsatisfied with his voice and is conscious of how soft and high-pitched it sounds.
“I’m from Portugal and here to do voice deepening surgery because I am unhappy with my voice and have a lot of dysmorphia with my voice.”
The second audio clip was taken a few hours after his surgery and the man repeats the same notes he used in the first clip.
There’s really not much difference with the 2.5 million people who’ve seen the video saying it was a total waste of money.
“Imagine spending £3,000 just to sound tired all the time.”
The surgery takes about 45-minutes, and works by relaxing the vocal cords and making an incision into the lower part of the neck.
Dr Yelken says there’s a high demand for the procedure, especially amongst transgender individuals who want a voice to match their new identity.
