One of the most exciting Amapiano producers features on the Ultimate Kaya 959 Top 30, a gent whose name was mentioned by previous guests on the show.
Mdu aka TRP who put out a 50-track album alongside Kabza De Small, shares with DJ Keyez what his journey thus far has been like.
The artist whose real name is Keith Mduduzi Mangena, dabbles in dance and electronic music and is signed to Jozi Entertainment.
He tells DJ Keyez that everything he’s learnt about producing music, fusing sounds, mixing and gigging came about with time.
“Nah, I’m self-taught, it started when I was just messing around with beats. That’s when things just started falling in place and I don’t know why but I guess people started enjoying the sounds I was putting out.”
His response isn’t even a humble brag, as Mdu aka TRP is completely unphased by what people refer to him as.
“There’s no such thing as a King of Amapiano, no one can say, yeah I own this sound. There are always guys who reinvent the genre and put out amazing work but no one can call me that. I just do what I do and I don’t care about what anyone thinks. It’s about what I’m happy to put out.”

With Pretty Girls Love Amapiano 3, the two heavyweight producers wanted to give people a party album.
The first 10 tracks were released in November, and all 50-tracks were dropped in December last year. News of an album with a whopping 50 songs caught many ‘piano lovers off-guard.
“It was unheard of, usually an album has anything from 10 to 15 songs and we’re dropping 50-tracks. People were losing their minds and couldn’t believe it. But that’s what you have to do as an artist is to push the envelop and do things that are outside the norm.”
So where to from here? For the young star, the only way he can go is up and with Amapiano making waves both locally and internationally, the sky’s the limit really.
“Everyone is vibing to Amapiano, international celebrities, other artists abroad are playing around with the beats, it’s going crazy on social media with trrends, now’s the time to go big or stay home.”
He’s not wrong, as many international artists are looking to collaborate with South African producers who have mastered the sound.
