Junior Taurus (JT) is a name that is well-known in Mzansi as the man is hailed as a pioneer in the SA music industry.
Tshepo Mosidi, was born in Rustenburg but moved to Mabopane, Lebanon and he shares with DJ Keyez more about how life in Pitori groomed him to be who he is.
After matric the popular amapiano artist who has a new EP out, studied Computer Science and Programming but he dropped out.
“It was a difficult time in my life. I think the reason my parents wanted me to get into Computers is because I knew a lot of computers. What my parents didn’t know was that I was interested in computers because I wanted to get into music production. So I was clued up on the software and I would be busy with that but I think my parents thought, I was doing something else.”
There was a point when Junior Taurus thought he was going to be a vocalist, an ambition he quickly let go of when he realised, he “couldn’t sing to save his life.”

When he dropped Computer Sciences and Programming, the Mamelodi hitmaker moved on to study Sound Engineering at Damelin.
“I used to listen to a lot of Blue Six and the group definitely influenced me. But there’s always an evolution in music and like we borrowed sound from bacardi and other genres.”
In 2013, Lady Zamar and JT first collaborated on a track that he created which he needed a poet for. When the track was done, JT reached out to Lady Zamar to see if she was keen to be a lead vocalist on a song he had written.
“Working with her was truly amazing, because she could deliver the notes by me just humming something. She would just come in and I wouldn’t even need to tell her what to do. I’d just have an idea in my head of how I wanted it to sound and it was almost like we had a mental connection and she would bring it to life.”
In talking about their working relationship on Mamelodi, JT revealed that Lady Zamar didn’t want to do the song.
It was a sound and song that she just wasn’t feeling and it was almost like she just got it over and done with because Junior Taurus had put pressure on her.
“I had to force her, she didn’t want to do it. It was like she hated the sound. Even when we were recording, I could just see it in her face that she wasn’t happy with the whole thing.”
In the end, Mamelodi with Lady Zamar and Junior Taurus feat. Odyssey 012 became a hit.
New from the amapiano artist
His latest 4-track EP titled “Until September” is what JT calls his memoirs and there’s a track in which he touches on the story of him switching his studies and what that time meant to him.
Unfortunately, it may just be his last amapiano work as he shares with DJ Keyez that he’s looking to branch out and evolve his sound.
