Amapiano duo Mellow and Sleazy are out with another dope collaboration, Wa Jaiva with Mr Jazzi Q.
Coming off of the success of Nkao Tempela, their last hit, the pair join DJ Keyez on the Ultimate Kaya 959.
Joining Sony Music in December 2021, has meant Phemelo Sefanyetse and Olebogeng Kwanaite, aka Mellow and Sleazy are on the fast-track to the big leagues.
The proud Pitori born and raised artists are quickly sending ripples through the SA music scene.
Forging a strong friendship from a young age, the pair soon realised they have a passion for beats and wanted to redefine that original Pretoria “Bacardi” sound.
Also known as KWA KWA or Mokonko the Barcadi genre, is an upbeat, instrumental sound that is a signature of Mellow and Sleazy.
Incidentally, they have an EP titled KWA KWA, which is now available on digital platforms.
The climb to the top was never the end goal for the duo, that wasn’t what their immediate focus was.
“Nah, it was never let’s do this and get fame, we pushed and pushed and the mindset was always, if it happens, it happens. You know. We didn’t go into this like, yeah we’re going to make it big.”

Mellow and Sleazy have had a few major collaborations which worked well, including Pabi Cooper and DJ Maphorisa.
“Thanda Kanjani” from their EP has done well and the track proves just how versatile the guys are.
Their inspiration for their sick beats comes from everything, from a ringtone to sounds on the streets.
“We can just be chilling and we hear something and it’s like ah, that’s dope let’s see how we can include it in. And, so we’re always experimenting with sounds.”
Respect is the foundation that makes their partnership work and it’s how the amapiano duo maintain a good working relationship. Even outside of music, their friendship prevails and keeps them close. The two have weathered many storms together and aim to continue on their musical journey together for a long time.
