Police Minister Bheki Cele is fuming after the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court granted suspected mass shooter R800 bail.
Thando Shuba who is facing six counts of murder is now out on bail, with his case remanded to July.
Bheki Cele slammed the court for failing the police’s work and making a mockery of the severity of the crime.
Addressing media in Khayelitsha on Wednesday, 11 May, Cele said this is the fifth time the suspect received bail.
“What frustrates me is that a suspect who was arrested has been given bail and it’s [his] fifth bail. He got bail for attempted murder, bail for possession of an illegal firearm and bail for robbery.”

This reaffirms the Khayelitsha community’s concerns that the suspect is a notorious gang leader who they believe will get away with murder.
“R800 bail for a mass shooting makes no sense,” the police minister said.
Shuba was arrested for the mass shooting in the Enkanini informal township on 20 March.
Meanwhile two other suspects have been arrested and charged with the mass shooting in Khayelitsha over the weekend.
Six people were killed in a mass shooting incident in Khayelitsha, Site C on Sunday, 8 May.
This was the fourth multiple shooting incident in Khayelitsha since March.
