Gauteng Traffic Police were left with egg on their faces after a department motorbike was stolen in Krugersdorp on Tuesday, 10 May.
The fully branded motorbike comes complete with blue lights and siren. It is unclear how thieves made off the the motorbike but police claim it was parked off.
When they returned police realised the bike was missing and reported it stolen.
The BMW motorbike’s registration number is FZ40FP GP.
Police are confident the vehicle can be recovered, although it is unclear if there is a tracker.
Criminals usually move swiftly to either take stolen vehicles apart for spares and parts or to sell them on the black market.
South Africans were left shocked at the brazen irony that police were robbed, highlighting the rise in crime in the country.
The public are urged to report if they spot the motorbike around immediately.
