uMngeni Municipality has announced a project that will electrify the Shiyabazali Settlement in the area.
Mayor Chris Pappas took to social media to announce the project and said it is worth R4,8 million and the community will benefit from 522 units that are aimed at improving their living conditions.
“Today we started a solar project in the Shiyabazali Settlement.”
“The project for R4.8 mil, funded through a national programme, aims to improve living conditions. 522 units are planned for the settlement which includes a panel, battery pack, 6 lights and a cellphone charger” wrote Chris Pappas.

During the 2021 Local Municipality Elections in KwaZulu-Natal, the Democratic Alliance (DA) took control of its first local municipality, uMngeni Municipality.
Chris Pappas, 30, was elected mayor, and Sandile Mnikathi, 26, was elected as deputy mayor.
Pappas is not only one of the city’s youngest mayors, but also speaks isiZulu fluently and has earned the hearts of tens of thousands of people.
