The matric class of 2022 will begin mid-year examinations on Monday, 9 May. All systems are in place to ensure that KwaZulu-Natal matriculants affected by the flood will be able to sit for the exams.
Even if learners have lost their identity documents, provision will be made as the department has documented all registered candidates.
Last year the department scrapped mid-year exams to allow learners time to catch up with the curriculum due to Covid-19.
The Minister’s decision was based on this year’s Grade 12 learners only returning back to school in July, amounting to 60% of the academic year being lost.
The department of education issued a separate statement detailing that this year’s Grade 12’s are facing an unusual predicament because many did not finish the syllabus for 2020 and the 2021 school year is off to a late start.
Class of 2022 mid-year exams
This year, a total of 290 680 matriculants were registered for both National Senior Certificate and Senior Certificate qualifications.
Candidates who sat for the National Senior Certificate in 2021 but did not attain full requirements for the qualification will also be writing the mid-year exams.
There are 5 236 examination centres across the country and the Department of Basic Education are carefully monitoring developments with this year’s exams.
Last year the department had to deal with leaked exam papers and have put measures in place for learners to comply with rules.
Candidates are advised to locate their exam centres days before they're due to write. Avoid frustration; don't leave this off until the day of the exam. https://t.co/xsGAcoCLF9
