South Africans rallied behind Dr Rebecca Malope after reports that she was mistreated by Bucy Radebe’s husband/manager circulated.
Dr Malope, a reknowned South African gospel artist was on Sunday, 01 May invited to a live show with singer/songwriter Bucy Radebe.
However, the day that was intended to be one of praise and worship ended with Dr Malope being reduced to tears.
After an apparent altercation between Bucy Radebe’s husband and manager Thapelo Thoboke ensued.
While he denies insulting Dr Rebecca Malope, several eyewitnesses verify the “Don’t Let Me Die” artists claims that she was disrespected.
When Radebe took to her social media to thank guests for supporting her, Dr Malope couldn’t hold back much longer.
She responded, “I wish I had the same experience as you. In 34 years of my career, I’ve never been so disappointed and disrespected. I hope it never happens again.”

Speaking to Drum, Malope shared that she was asked to collaborate on her song, Nkarabe which spoke to Radebe’s journey into motherhood.
There were rehearsals before the concert but Dr Malope wanted to add a few additional elements to the song.
On the day of the concert however, Radebe’s husband/manager told Dr Malope to go sit with the audience.
Malope was allegedly instructed to start the song from the audience, something she was not briefed about.
“Maybe he wanted me to feel he was the boss, but he started swearing and saying all sorts of things that I do not wish to repeat. He was fighting. He said in his words, ‘If you don’t want me to do what I say you, can leave it,’ He then said, ‘If you don’t want to you can f**k off,” she shared with the publication.
Dr Rebecca Malope, who is retired, said she was not paid for the performance and was there out of love for God and upcoming talent.
“I was not paid, I didn’t charge them for anything. I was there out of love for God and upcoming talent like I do with everyone. I am at home, retired, enjoying my life, my grandchildren and I left my home to honour the invitation because Bucy explained how much my song meant to her. Then he insulted me. I felt abused. It took me back to when my father was so abusive towards my mother.”
Malope claims she was told her song did not add value to the concert and was sworn at with words she does not want to repeat.
“He told me that the song is not adding any value to the concert anyway, who do I think I am? Yena he wasted money in putting this whole thing together. I can just ‘f**k off.’ He was using swear words like a bully. He didn’t even pretend to be humble. It’s like he was doing me a favour.”
All of which Bucy’s husband denies, saying the entire incident was nothing more than a misunderstanding.
He claims he didn’t confront Malope personally and she instead overheard a conversation between him and her manager.
“The unfortunate incident between myself and Dr Rebecca Malope’s manager which was because of changes in the song approach which I was not informed of, unfortunately, reached Dr Malope’s ears as she was in close proximity to us being prepared to go on stage,” Radebe’s husband released in a statement.
Dr Malope attended the funeral of Hillary Gardee where she performed a song of worship on Saturday, 7 May.
