Advocate Malesela Teffo’s arrest in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial will cause further delays in the trial.
This after the lawyer representing four of the men accused for the footballer’s death was arrested shortly after the session was adjourned on Thursday.
Videos that were shared of Advocate Teffo’s arrest show him questioning what the charges of his arrest are. The response from the Investigating Officer was that Teffo had missed a court appearance.
In a separate video, media can be heard asking the officer why he hasn’t read Advocate Teffo his rights, and repeatedly ask what the charges against him are.
Before he was handcuffed, Teffo said his arrest was strategic because Police Minister Bheki Cele did not want him on the case.
“Bheki Cele does not want me on this case. He’s had this warrant of arrest from January and they’re arresting me now.”

Meanwhile SAPS has declared that Teffo’s arrest is related to two cases of common assault and trespassing and he is expected to appear in the Hillbrow magistrates court on Friday morning.
The advocate’s arrest means the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial has been postponed until May.
Teffo maintains that Bheki Cele has an agenda with his arrest because he has exposed corrupt cops in his client’s defence, with regards to Meyiwa’s murder.
