Senzo Meyiwa’s murder trial faced further delays on Tuesday when the case was postponed to 22 April.
This after the trial failed to get off the ground on Monday, 11 April when the state was accused of ambushing one of the co-accused.
Counsel for the fifth suspect accused the state of releasing key witness statements at the last minute, which they say left the defence unprepared.
The 5 men accused of Meyiwa’s murder are Mthobisi Prince, Bongani Sandiso Ntazni, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli and Mthokoziseni Maphisa.
Meyiwa, a former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper was shot in October 2014.
Months leading up to his death, Meyiwa was a national rising star, who was in the best form of his life for both club and country.
He was gunned down in an apparent botched robbery in Vosloorus, with his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo and her family present.
At the start of the trial, it was revealed that the identities of key witnesses would remain hidden as they were afraid their lives would be in danger.
Tuesday’s postponement comes after the defence for the fifth suspect requested more time to consult with witnesses.
Last year, Senzo Meyiwa’s brother, Sifiso said the five accused of the murder were innocent and were being used as scapegoats.
He is adamant that police know the true identity of the mastermind behind his brother’s murder but that they are protecting the culprit.
