Zandile Gumede is the new eThekwini Regional Chairperson.
The former Durban mayor has been chosen as chairman of the ANC’s eThekwini region in a landslide victory for her unity and continuity slate.
Gumede received 210 votes in her absence due to the ANC’s step-aside rule, while her opponent, eThekwini speaker Thabani Nyawose, received 181 votes.

Gumede is accused of corruption in connection with the awarding of an R320 million waste contract.
Gumede’s slate, which is backed by the ANC’s radical economic transformation group, won a landslide victory in the region, which is one of the most powerful in the country.
