With Easter only a few weeks away, the Italian makers of Germany’s famed Kinder Joy Eggs have issued a recall on some batches of the product, as well as a variety of other children’s chocolate items, on Tuesday.
The precautionary recall is being issued owing to the possibility of a link to a salmonella outbreak that began in the United Kingdom and has sickened largely young children.
The number of salmonella cases in the United Kingdom has grown to 63, with the average age of those who have become ill-being under the age of five.

A recall has also been issued in France for comparable products.
Consumers should avoid using specific batches of Kinder Surprise products, according to the UK’s food safety agency FSA.
Ferrero, the product’s maker, had decided to remove one of its items from the market after it was determined to be unsafe for human consumption.
The Food Standards Agency believes there is a link between Kinder’s food and the spread of Salmonella infection.
